To anybody it will be able to already pass to him the amazing spectacle unnoticed that emerges on the old industrial zone of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, next to the sea, by work and grace of the escultor, engineer, architect and Valencian visionary Santiago Calatrava. This singular Auditoriuim, (peculiar sum of imagination and water, sand, cement and burdens), is any thing except a current construction. The Auditorium of Tenerife is but a dynamic sculpture and lives that a monolithic construction destined to happen inadvertent. The building has already become everything a symbol, an icon, of the city in front of the world. A symbol that reinforces the city and projects its image to the outside, as much by its singularity as by its characteristics, with which Calatrava has wanted to extend the artistic character of the activities of the interior towards the outside. The faraónica construction consists of 23,000 m2. Of all these m2 destined to the construction, 6741 corresponds to the building and the rest will form part of the urbanization, gardens and parking with 260 seats. Audience, which he finishes crowned by a gigantic wing, plume, wave or gigantic language of cobra that tries to swallow it to it without obtaining it, presents/displays two differentiated external characteristics good and that confers their evident personality to him. First of them he must to his evident opening to the outside, as much to the sea as to the own city, with ample terraces and opened seats, and with a peatonal passage that the building crosses cross-sectionally. Second of these singularities, next to the tension and the expressive force of the art of Calatrava, they locate more to the Auditorium in the orbit of a gigantic organic sculpture in whose interior music will become that in a common building destined to such artistic and cultural uses. The Auditorium of Tenerife counts on two rooms, a main one, with 1,716 armchairs, and another one of camera with something more than four hundred. The main room?coronada in its peak by an immense cupola this equipped with located variable panels after the walls with the same one that will allow to fit the acoustics from the room to each one of the anticipated spectacles, or opera, symphonic concert, recital, dance, jazz, etc. etc. To the enormous scene of 363 m2 and with a mouth of 17 m.s of wide by 13 m.s of stop, the access of the artístas takes place at level and with the crossed minor possible, something that unfortunately is little habitual in this type of constructions. In order to equip the scene with a greater versatility it has been equipped to him with a part fixes and three hydraulic platforms: two destined to the orchestra and third for the piano. This will allow to locate the orchestra as much as the possible choirs at different levels. Finally, the room will be presided over by an immense organ, fundamental piece of the scenic equipment of the building, whose construction this into the hands of the Catalan teacher Gabriel Blancafort. The room of camera, on the other hand, is diametrically opposite to the main room. To both sides of the same one there is a store and the essential ticket offices, as well as the corresponding wardrobes. The Audience counts on an ample set of services that will allow him to absorb and to take care of any necessity future: from cafeterias and restaurants to a small commercial zone, passing by the definitive offices of the Symphony orchestra of Tenerife, the corresponding ones to the personnel in charge to manage and to take care of the different necessities from the Audience as well as by a battalion of individual and collective dressing rooms, rooms of self-study and collective work. In the programming of the Audience there will be space for the theater, the opera, the dance, the congresses and the exhibitions, as well as a programming of ethnic and alternative musics. The construction of the Opera House of Tenerife began during the spring of 1997. Since then a series of modifications has been made in the initial project conceived by Calatrava. Its completion arrives at his fín, being predicted its inauguration for end of this me sde September of 2003.
